Called

Here is a little bit of what to expect when pursuing a call into the ministry

Credentials

  1. Local Ministers License

    • First, you will speak with your church’s pastor about this call and work with them to receive your first credential. This will give you pastoral authority in your local church only. You will need to hold this credential for at least a year before applying for a District License.

  2. District Ministers License

    • You will need to fill out an application and turn it into your local church. Once this happens you will be interviewed by the District Advisory Board and if they feel you are ready will grant you a District License during District Assembly. You will need to take classes and renew this credential every year.

  3. Ordination

    • Once you have completed all of your schooling and have held your District credentials for at least two years you are eligible for Ordination. The year you are to be Ordained you will need to go to Point Loma with your spouse and complete the Ministerial Candidate Workshop. They will ask you many questions and have you fill out hours of paperwork and personal questionnaires. Afterward, they will send their assessment to your District Leadership and they will decide whether or not to recommend you for Ordination during the next District Assembly.

  4. Continued Learning Credits

    • After you are Ordained you will be required to complete 20 hours of continued learning every year.

The Call

This is an event put on by the Nazarene church to help you in navigating this calling. If you are interested in attending please check it out.

What do I do now

If you are feeling a call into ministry talk to your youth pastor, senior pastor, or parent, or contact the NYI Council and we will reach out to you just talk to someone about it. It is helpful to have someone who has gone through the same calling as you. Take your time and discern if this is really God’s call on your life. You don’t have to rush into anything or get the process started right away. Take the time to pray. If you do feel called I hope you will fill out the form below so the NYI is made aware of this call on your life and can make sure you are supported as you work it out in your life.
